Deloris is an aspiring singing star and is hoping that her gang boss boyfriend, Curtis, will recognise her talent and help her hit the big time. That's before she unwittingly witnesses Curtis commit murder and has to go into hiding for her own protection. Deloris is holed up in a Californian convent disguised as a nun much to the chagrin of the po-faced Mother Superior. Initially completely out of her depth, Deloris soon begins to upend the quiet lives of the resident sisters by putting a bomb under the convent choir and turning it from a tuneless dirge into a vibrant singing sensation.
