Opera Holloway presents: Carmen.
Transport yourself with Bizet’s thrilling opera. A tale of love, loss and seduction set in the Spanish Civil War in a brand-new production for Opera Holloway. Constantly relevant in the C21st the main themes centre around feminine strength, toxic masculinity and jealousy. The story is an ageless love triangle between Don José, Carmen and Escamillo. While away at war Don José falls in love with Carmen who is imprisoned following a fight in the local town. Carmen seduces Don José to secure her freedom and convinces him to join her gypsy lifestyle. Carmen is then allured by the bullfighter, Escamillo, and while the town gossip, Don José’s jealousy leads to Carmen’s demise. Featuring famous arias such as the “Toreador”, the “Flower Song” and the “Habanera” this promises to be a show with something for everyone to enjoy.
